William H. Miller, Sr., MD, of Ithaca, NY, formerly of Wynnewood, PA, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 16 at Cayuga Medical Center. Born August 10, 1920 he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1942 and Pennâs Medical School in 1945. He served as a Captain in the Army Medical Corps from 1943-1948. Dr. Miller was Director of Clinical Laboratories and Pathology at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Darby, PA from 1955 until his retirement in 1983. He was a life-long bird watcher, enjoyed Civil War history, Sherlock Holmes and extensive travel throughout the world.
Dr. Miller is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Regina (Ramspacher) Miller, his beloved wife and mother of his children, Mildred (Bruzas) Miller; cherished second wife, Helen (Bailey) Miller; his siblings, Julia, Ruth, Theo, Jack, Bob and Ralph Miller; and his niece, Margery Miller.
He is survived, loved, and will forever be remembered by his children, Anne Zartarian, Susan Miller (Norm Dionne) and William H. Miller, Jr. (Kathryn); three grandchildren, Steven, Julia and Andrew; six nieces and nephews and extended family.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Joe Marcoux at St. Catherine of Sienna Church, 302 St. Catherines Circle, Ithaca, NY on Thursday, June 25 at 10 am. Burial at Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, PA, will be on Thursday, July 2 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Cornell Lab of Ornithology, 159 Sapsucker Woods Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.
