Wayne B. Leonard

LANSING, NY

Wayne B. Leonard, 33, of 866 Lansingville Rd., passed away at home on February 10, 2012, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Born in Ithaca, NY, on June 13, 1978, he was the son of Edward and Emma (Jarrell) Leonard, who survive him. Wayne was a 1997 graduate of Lansing High School, and he proudly served with the U.S. Army from 1997-2001. Prior to his illness he had been employed as a technician with Goodyear in Ithaca. He was an avid NASCAR fan and also enjoyed football and baseball.

In addition to his parents, Wayne is survived by his daughter, Emmie Leonard, at home; his son, Cayden Miller of Enfield; a brother, Jon Leonard of CO; and numerous, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Wayne was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ashley Davenport-Leonard; maternal grandparents, Basil Griffith and Nellie Christina (Stover) Jarrell; and paternal grandparents, Harry and Florence (Hovanas) Leonard.

The Leonard family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Hospicare, especially, Carrie, Wahtora, Richard and Nelson for their care and compassion during Wayne’s illness.

Memorial contributions in Wayne’s memory may be directed to Hospicare, 172 E. King Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.

Family will be present to receive friends, at Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Rd., Lansing, NY, from 2 – 4 pm on Thursday, February 16th. At 4 pm a funeral service, officiated by Pastor Gregory Wesley, will begin, followed by Military Honors.

A candlelight vigil for Wayne will be held at 7 pm, February 13th, at Washington Park, Ithaca.
