Stanley ‘Stosh’ Burke

It is with great sadness that the family of Stanley Burke announces his passing on March 28, 2018 at the age of 85. He will be lovingly remembered by Mary, his wife of 64 years, and their children Bonny (Nick) Boles and Tom (Robin) Burke, his brothers Carl (Pooch) and Ronnie, and sister Verla Gabriel, and brother-in-law Benny Macera and wife Mary. He was predeceased by his son, Rodney Burke, and his siblings Francis (Junie) and Gloria Werner. Poppy, as he was called by family, will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Kelli, Tommy, Billie, Jesse, Adam, Lucas and Desiree; and great grandchildren Kiana, Tyriq, Logan, Gavin, Dakota, Dyson, Declan, Ezekiel, and Lincoln.

Stanley was born in Ludlowville, NY on July 24, 1932 to Virginia and Martin Burke. He enlisted in the Marine Corp. immediately after graduating from high school at the age of 17. Stanley fought in the Korean War, including the battle of Chosin Reservoir. He was later captured and held as a Prisoner of War for 32 months. Stanley returned home a distinguished and decorated Marine and was honored with a Purple Heart.

Stanley was employed as an electrician at NYSEG, Milliken Station where he retired after 32 years. He was then the building inspector for the Town of Lansing for many years. Stanley was an avid Lansing athletics fan. He and Mary enjoyed spending time with family, watching old movies, Syracuse basketball, the Patriots and the Yankees. They also enjoyed eating breakfast at the local diner, hunting for treasures at garage sales, or hitting the casinos. Stanley loved tending to his garden and watching the birds.

Stanley was a man of great character and a true gentleman. He was generous and unconditional with his love, and will be greatly missed.
