NORTH LANSING - It is with great sadness that the family of Robert “Rob” Hall announce his passing. Rob went to be with our Lord on September 30, 2022 at the age of 81 after complications following heart bypass surgery. He was known for his strength, and over the years he faced physical and medical challenges that he always overcame with a smile and laughter. He fought very hard to survive this and stayed strong until the end.
Rob, or Robbie (as many called him), was born on Sharpsteen Road in North Lansing, the son of Earl and Ella Hall of Lansing, NY. He was a lifelong resident of Lansing and raised his family on the road where he was born. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, June (Doyle) Hall of Lansing. Rob was an extremely proud dad of his children, Debra Hall-Foster (Mike Eveleigh) of Groton, Vicky (Pat) Mikula, Brenda (Sonny) Arcangeli and Jeff (Jessie) Hall, all of Lansing. His pride didn’t stop there, and he was so grateful to play a big part in his grandchildren’s lives - Ryan Foster (Jenna Zimmer), Amanda Foster, Nicole Arcangeli (Corey Sill), Brittney (Kelly) Colton, Mattie Arcangeli (Zach Kemp), Taylor Mikula (Landon Kimbrell), Jacob and Jared Hall. Rob played a huge role in the lives of his family and has left a large void for all. Rob is also survived by his great grandchildren, Bella, Hayleigh and Caleb; and three sisters. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.
Rob spent his life enjoying operating heavy equipment and trucks of all shapes and sizes. He was a proud member of the Operating Engineers Union 545 for more than 50 years. He owned a wide variety of equipment, tractor trailers, and trucks over his many years, and eventually owned and retired from his own company, Spuds Excavating, where he was a proud partner with his son Jeff.
Rob was also an active community member of North Lansing. He was a volunteer fireman, maintained the community water system, and was a friend to all. Everyone knew Rob. Whether he was working on a job site, at a social event, or ran into you at the market, he had a unique way of bonding with people. He was never in a rush and enjoyed a good conversation. People bonded with him immediately; he was so easy to talk to.
Besides spending time with his family, Rob loved bowling, playing cards, woodworking, conversations over a cup of coffee, meeting people, and playing horseshoes. In 2017, he was proudly inducted into the Tri County Horseshoe Club Hall of Fame. Coincidentally, many years prior he also helped excavate the site for the horseshoe building (of course).
If you ever traveled with Rob or he gave you directions, it most likely included a seasonal or dirt road. He wasn’t one to take the main roads and always wandered off the beaten path to discover new areas, small diners, mom and pop shops, and enjoy the beauty of the countryside.
Without a doubt, Rob was most proud of his family and would always share stories about his children and grandchildren. They brought him his greatest joy in life. Likewise, his family was unbelievably proud of him. Words can’t express just how proud his family is of who he was as a person, husband, dad and grandpa. Our hearts break and he will be missed greatly.
Please, join us to celebrate and remember Rob’s life on Friday, October 7, 2022 at Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Road, Lansing. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in North Lansing Cemetery, immediately followed by a reception and celebration of life at the Lansing Rod and Gun Club. Friends and family are asked to dress casual for the services and warmly for the reception.
