Robert J. Goddard

Robert J. Goddard, age 76, passed away in the presence of his family on April 21, 2016, in Sayre, PA.

Born July 18, 1939 in Cortland, Robert was a son of the late Leon and Vada Connell Goddard.

Robert spent many years of employment with Smith Corona and Buckbee Mears in Cortland, and had just recently retired from Cornell University.   He trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior as a teenager and brought his children up in the Christian faith.  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and his presence will be dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Goddard; sister, Shirley Goddard and two grandchildren, Evyn Houck and Lauren Goddard.

Robert is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Carol Sumeriski Goddard; their children, Tony  Goddard (Amy) of North Rose, NY, Debra Houck (Brian) of Stuarts Draft, VA; Julie Winters (David) of Clarksburg, MD; grandchildren. Hannah, Katelyn and Rachel Goddard, Brendon Houck, Avery and Autumn Winters; his brothers, Leo Goddard (Martha), David Goddard (Joy); sister, Patty Christofferson (Skip), and sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Goddard.  Robert also leaves a large extended family.

Family will be present to receive friends from 3 to 4pm, Monday, April 25, 2016 at Groton Assembly of God, 701 S. Main St., Groton, NY.  A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Sam Neno, will follow at 4pm.   Burial at Atwater Cemetery in Homer will be private.  Lansing Funeral Home is assisting the family.
