Robert P. Coates, of Davis Rd., Lansing, NY, passed away November 2, 2011, at the age of 77.
Born March 8, 1934, in Jay, Maine, he was the son of the late Percival and Alice (Smith) Coates. Bob grew up in the backwoods of Quebec, Canada, which gave him a great appreciation of the outdoors and of self sufficiency. An avid deer and turkey hunter, he also enjoyed fishing in the many local streams. Bob had a passion for motorcycles and took up the sport of motocross at the age of 40. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Bob was employed at Mohawk Airlines in Ithaca for a time before taking a position with General Electric as an electronics technician. He also spent time working at Ithaco, and was most recently employed with Ridge Road Imports in Lansing. Bob was a founding member of Asbury Church, and had spent over 40 years as a board member first with the Ithaca Assembly of God and then with Asbury Church.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a son, Robert M. Coates.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Diana Voss Coates; sons, Paul Coates, Daniel Coates, both of Lansing, Carl Coates of Binghamton; grandchildren, Michael, Alex, Meghan, John, Robert D., and Rachel; great grandchild, Talon; a sister, Irma (Dennis) Chapman of Canada; and a large extended family.

A memorial service, officiated by Pastor David Quigley, will begin at 11am, Saturday, November 12, 2011, at Asbury Church, Lansing, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. Burial at Lansingville Cemetery will be private.
