Lisa Ann Sweazey Topoleski passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at the age of 45 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Born in Ithaca, NY, April 21, 1967, Lisa was the daughter of Judith Miller Sweazey and the late Thomas Sweazey, Sr. A lifelong resident of the Lansing community, Lisa was a 1985 graduate of Lansing High School, a graduate of SUNY Oswego, and received her Masterâs degree from San Diego State in CA. She embarked upon a career in teaching, first at South Seneca School District and then Lansing Central School District. A much loved faculty member in both districts, she will be deeply missed by students and co-workers. Lisa was a very special wife, Mama, daughter, niece, cousin, and friend. She had a wonderful zest for life, learning and traveling; cultivating many friendships near and far. She had the unique experience of growing up on Collins Rd. with her many cousins, aunts and uncles whom she dearly loved.
Lisa is survived by her devoted husband of 17 years, Daniel Topoleski; their daughters, Mackenzie Ann, Fraser Danielle, Delaini Soleil, and fuzzy daughter, Riley, all of Lansing; her mother, Judith Sweazey (Ronald Eastman) of Lansing; brothers, Thomas Sweazey Jr. (Melinda) of Lansing and Steven Sweazey of Groton; nieces, Taylor and Emma Sweazey; nephews, Kyle and Jared Sweazey and Jonathan Moseley; numerous Sweazey, Dean, Varga and Wolf cousins; aunts, Dixie Varga (Louie), Terri Dean (Stuart), Bonny Wolf (David), Lorraine Mazza (Bruno), Eva Sweazey, and special great aunt, Gloria Christopher; her in-laws, Leonard and Janice Topoleski of Ithaca; Dr. LD Timmie Topoleski (Dr. Marci Chasnow) and their children, Eliza and Audrey of MD; and Dr. Tamara Ann Topoleski (Lenny Foffa) of FL. Lisa also leaves behind many dear friends, especially Lynn Gardiner, with whom she shared a special bond.
Lisa was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Sweazey, Sr., and an uncle, James Sweazey.
A Memorial Mass, officiated by Fr. Joe Marcoux, will begin at 11am, Saturday, February 16, 2013, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 302 St. Catherineâs Circle, Ithaca, NY. Following the Mass, a celebration of Lisaâs life will be held at Crossroads in Lansing.
