Liboria "Libby" Gruppuso

Liboria “Libby” Gruppuso, 91, of Ithaca, passed away at Guthrie Corning Hospital on November 25, 2023, with her husband at her side.

Born April 23, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY, Libby was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Mazie (Ditta) Gruppuso.  She graduated from Brooklyn College and was a pioneer in early computer programming and analytics.  After moving to Ithaca in 1970, she was employed as a computer analyst at Cornell University for over 25 years, retiring in 1993 as an assistant director.  Her co-workers will always remember her holiday rum balls.

Libby loved to garden and be outside, and she very much enjoyed spending time at her home.  She always wanted things to be perfect and settled for nothing less.

Libby was preceded in death by her companion of over 50 years, Dolly S. Sewell, in 2016.  Together, they visited friends in Dolly’s native Wisconsin for many years.  In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her brother, Vincent Gruppuso.  Vincent was the founder of Kozy Shack Enterprises.  Libby was proud of being the taste tester and aiding in the development of the pudding recipe.

Libby is survived by her husband, Steven Manciocchi; brother, Frank Gruppuso; cousin, Robert Stadulis; dear friends, Cindy Pataki and Karen Baker; family she loved as children, Devin (Amanda) Manciocchi, Austin (Shannon) Manciocchi, and Paige (Scott) Manciocchi; and two grandchildren, McCoy Conway Manciocchi and Maya Rose Manciocchi.  She was predeceased by Logan Manciocchi, whom she loved as a son.

Libby’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the loving care she received at Brookdale Painted Post.

A memorial service, officiated by Reverend Matthew Binkewicz, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on December 5, 2023, at Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Road, Lansing, NY.
