LaVerna E. Adams

LaVerna E. (Chaffee) Adams, 89, of Newfield passed away peacefully on February 13, 2021.

She was born on November 22, 1931 in Newfield, the first daughter of Maynard and Vivian (Wright) Chaffee.  She was the oldest of seven children.

LaVerna was the beloved wife of John E. Adams, who died December 27, 2014.  She is survived by her four children, Richard Scott and his wife Widi of Newfield, NY; Mike and his wife Robin of Lansing, NY; John and his wife Angela of Ithaca, NY; and Kim and her husband Chris Stamberger of Interlaken, NY.  She also leaves six cherished grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

LaVerna “Verna” loved children and was a surrogate mother to hundreds during the time she worked at Newfield Central school.  She worked in the nursery school, after school program and bus aid.  She thoroughly enjoyed caring for children, watching them grow up and then being entrusted with the care of their children.  She was a cherished member of the community.

LaVerna and John were active members of Peoples Baptist Church in Newfield, NY and participated in many activities and never missed a fellowship opportunity.

Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021, at People’s Baptist Church, 364 Main Street, Newfield, NY 14867.  A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church.
