John M. Lewkowicz (77) and Alicia B. Lewkowicz (79) passed away peacefully in their home on Wednesday, February 02, 2022, in Ithaca, NY.
John and Alicia were wed in 1964 and enjoyed 58 years of a beautiful and loving marriage together.
John M. Lewkowicz
John was born on May 01, 1945, in Schenectady, NY, and was the son of the late Thaddeus Lewkowicz and Jill Young. John attended undergrad at Cornell University, and went on to work at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine before retiring as Director Emeritus of the Veterinary Computing Service.
John was a lover of botany, horticulture, and photography, and he enjoyed spending his spare time hiking in Shindagin Hollow State Forest and photographing plants and wildlife. He also had a love for the musical and visual arts, and could frequently be found listening to bluegrass or country music while working on his various glasswork and woodwork projects. He is survived by his four children — Matt Lewkowicz, Mark Lewkowicz, Jill Walker, and Alicia D. Lewkowicz — and his talent, wit, humor, and brilliance will be greatly missed by all.
Alicia B. Lewkowicz
Alicia was born on February 09, 1943, in Buffalo, NY, to the late Alfred and Marion Buerger. Alicia attended both undergrad and graduate school at Cornell University, where she earned her master’s degree before pursuing a career in primary education and eventually devoting herself to her home and her children.
Passionate about ornithology and literature, Alicia loved visiting the Cornell Lab of Ornithology; going on hikes to observe various birds and wildlife; and, at the end of a long day, settling in with a good novel. In addition, Alicia was a beloved member of the Ithaca community who dedicated her time to volunteering at the Service League, and who was an integral member of her local book club and fellowship group. She is survived by her four children — Matt Lewkowicz, Mark Lewkowicz, Jill Walker, and Alicia D. Lewkowicz — and her empathy, kindness, and intelligence will never be forgotten or replaced.
