Joan Helen Victoria

A kind, caring, warm-hearted and generous person, born February 16, 1945, Joan Helen Victoria died at home on October 6, 2018.  She was 73 years old.  Always curious, always wanting to know more about any topic, she was always ready for stimulating conversation.  Joan was a gardener, a lover of books, poetry, live music, good food, coffee and wine, and a supporter of local theater.  She knew that some of the best books were the ones that people tried to ban, and she stayed abreast of the latest attempts so she could be sure to read those, too.

Joan worked at “Ma Bell” and Ithaco locally and worked for FedEx in the Bay Area of California, where she retired before moving back to Newfield.

She was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Helen Straight.  She leaves behind her brothers, John and David, and her sister, Carol.  Also surviving are her three sons:  Matt, Chris and Dan Pakkala.

Friends and family will lead a graveside service on Friday, October 12, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Greensprings Natural Cemetery Preserve, 293 Irish Hill Road, Newfield, NY 14867.
