Jeannette L. (Cook) Steve

Groton/Trumansburg

Jeannette L. Steve, age 98, of Groton, formerly of Ithaca and Trumansburg, passed away on September 14, 2013, at the Groton Nursing Facility where she had been residing for the past several years.

She was born in Ithaca, NY, on January 26, 1915, one of five daughters, to the late Wirt and Catherine (Cochrane) Cook. She, along with her husband, built and operated the J&L Motor Court in Jacksonville. Her love and attention were devoted to that of her family, unselfishly giving of her time and talents.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Barbara Steve of Seal Beach, CA, her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Scott of Freeville, NY; her grandchildren, Barbette Bowers of CA; William and Amy Scott of Freeville; Laurie and Jerry Lawrence of The Plains, VA; Michael and Amy Scott, Ithaca; her great grandchildren, Matthew (Donna) Bowers of Corning, Mitchell Bowers of CA, Melissa Lawrence of VA, Jeremy (Rachel) Lawrence of VA, Kristen (Andy) Hunt of NC, Justin Scott of NC, Michaela Scott, Vanessa Scott of Ithaca; and her great great grandchildren, Trent and Olivia Lawrence of V; Madison and Logan Hunt of VA; Rowan Bowers, Halla and Daughton of Corning. Jeannette was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Steve in 2007, and by her son-in-law, Bill Scott in July 2013.

In keeping with Jeannette’s wishes, private services will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Ithaca at a later date. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Groton Nursing Facility for their wonderful care.
