Janice J. VanAllen, 94, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, at Cayuga Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ithaca, NY. Born in Cortland, NY, on December 30, 1930, to the late Harold S. and Ruth J. (Ames) Johnson, Janice was a lifelong resident of Groton, NY.
Throughout her life, Janice was always known to be a hard worker and dedicated over 30 years to Smith Corona where she worked as an assembler. In her 50s, she became a volunteer firefighter with the Freeville Fire Department and felt this was one of her greatest accomplishments. In her 60s, Janice earned an associate’s degree in human development from TC3. In her free time, she enjoyed diamond art, word searches, and tending to her flower gardens. She loved her cats and, most of all, spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Janice was predeceased by her children, Kris Keller and Susette Keller, and brother, Bill Johnson. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Keller (Walter Slowe), and grandchildren, LaTisha Slowe-McCloud (Forrest), Tanikka Slowe, Shaniece Slowe, Alisha Slowe-Drozdowski (Robert), James Keller (Wayne MacDonald), Desiree Richmond, Serena Keller, Tawnya Keller, Chassidy Gandy, Joseph Payne, Crystal Keller and LeAnna Gandy. She also leaves behind several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In keeping with Janice’s wishes, there will be no services at this time.
