Glenn David Horton

Glenn David Horton of Lansing, NY passed away August 8, 2015. Born April 12, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri and raised in Douglas, Wyoming, he was a son of the late David Vance and Georgianna Horton.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Glenn is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mildred (Hovanus) Horton; their four children, David Horton of Houston, TX, Carol Lowe (Richard) of Newark Valley, Sandra Landon (Lynn) of Lansing, and James Horton (Patty) of Alpine, CA; grandchildren, Stephanie Vasquez (Arnold), Jon Horton (Misty), Ashley Kennedy (Nathan), Joshua, Jason and Jeffrey Williams, Sara Hatfield (John) and Rusty Landon; great grandchildren, Alexa, Victoria, Alec, Aubrey and Chloee; sister, Edith Zaichkin; brother, Forrest Horton; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his sisters, Norma, Alva and Lucille.

In 1943, at the age of 17, Glenn enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country during WWII while aboard the USS Sevier, sailing in the South Pacific. Glenn continued his Naval service for 20 years, retiring in August of 1962 as a Chief Petty Officer. After his military service, Glenn was employed by the Ithaca Hotel, Smith’s Hardware and retired from Ithaca College in 1990.

A memorial service will be held at 11am, Friday, August 14, 2015, at Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Rd., Lansing, NY. Interment with full Military Honors will follow at North Lansing Cemetery.
