Florence E. Elliott, age 87, passed away peacefully at Beechtree Care Center in Ithaca on January 30, 2018.
Born September 30, 1930 in Auburn, NY, Florence was the daughter of the late Edwin G. and Mary Ellen Connell Bryant. She was a nursing graduate of Morrisville State College, and prior to becoming a full time stay at home mom, Florence was a nurse at the former Lakeside Nursing Home, now Cayuga Ridge in Ithaca. Florence was a devoted wife to the love of her life, Elmer. She was a strong woman; often having to care for her children on her own while Elmer was traveling for work, sometimes overseas for extended periods. It was not unheard of for her to have to pack her kids up in the middle of the night and drive to the airport to pick him up upon his return. She was also a devout Catholic, always maintaining her faith no matter the hardships she was presented with. In her golden years, she enjoyed traveling and square dancing with Elmer, extended summer visits from her grandchildren, flower gardening, and caring for her feline friends.
In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Elliott; her sons, Mark Elliott, Andrew Elliott, Bernard Elliott; and her brother, William Bryant. Florence is survived by her grandchildren, Jason Elliott (Shawna) of Homer, Jenell Arcan (Daniel) of Ossining, NY, Jacob Elliott (Sarah) of NC; great grandchildren, Mark, Shawn, Samantha, Connor and Alyssa; nephews, Steve Bryant and Christopher Bryant (Barb), great nieces and nephews, and extended family, as well as her feline children Dolly and Nessie. She is also survived by her devoted daughter-in-law, Ann Elliott of Lansing.
Family will be present to receive friends from 12-1pm, Monday, February 5, at Lansing FuneralHome, 32 Auburn Rd., Lansing, NY. A funeral service, officiated by Fr. Carsten P. Martensen will begin at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Finger Lakes SPCA of CNY, 41 York St., Auburn, NY 13021.
