Donald E. Cook, Sr., 66, of 97 Armstrong Rd., Lansing, NY, passed away on January 8, 2012, at the Hospicare residence after losing a ten month battle with cancer.
Born December 11, 1945 in Ithaca, he attended Newfield Central School before moving to Lansing, where he owned and operated an auto body repair garage and then Donâs Inboard Outboard Boat Motor Shop until his retirement in 2011. Don was an avid fisherman and enjoyed time spent on his boat with friends on Cayuga Lake and fishing in tournaments throughout upstate New York. He also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and animals that frequented his backyard, the companionship of his pets, and traveling.
Don leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Mary Hutchings Cook; his mother, Millicent Goodwin; a sister, Sandra (Amos) Little; his sons, Patrick (Michelle) Tierney and their child, Tayler of NC; Perry (Jennifer) Cook and their children, Mikayla and Hunter, of Lansing; and grandchildren Joseph and Rachelle Cook of FL.
Don was preceded in death by his father, Harold Cook and a son, Donald (DJ) Cook, Jr.
Family will be present to receive friends from 4 â 7 pm, Wednesday, January 11th, at Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Rd., Lansing, NY. A private funeral service, officiated by Rev. Tim Dean, will take place on Thursday, January 12th, followed by burial at Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden, NY.
