Dolores (Del) E. Brown, 88, of Ithaca, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, January 19, 2016.

Born October 25, 1927 in Ithaca, NY, she was the daughter of the late Glenn A. Smith and Susan Strong Smith. A 1945 graduate of Ithaca High School, she was employed as the administrative secretary to the Dean of Cornell Law School. She retired in 1985 after 20 years of service. She also worked for Educational Displays and GLF (Agway) prior to raising her family.

Mrs. Brown had been a den mother for Cub Scouts as well as a Girl Scout Leader. She helped to facilitate many other activities that her children were involved in. She and her late husband enjoyed many years of square dancing with the Square-a-Naders of Ithaca and the Circulators of Rochester.

She was a charter member and former treasurer of Christ Chapel, and was a member of the Tompkins County Senior Citizens, Northeast and Lansing units.

She was predeceased by her husband, William F. Brown (1996) and her sisters, Gertrude E. Mauk (1986) and Jean Obed Hughes (2008). She is survived by her son Grant Abrams, married to Bonnie (Hodge); her daughter Diane (Abrams), married to Bob Smith; her daughter Cheryl (Abrams), married to Chuck Hildbold; her step-son Barry Brown, married to Lynn (Hoskins) and her step-daughter Jyl (Brown), married to Jack Cox. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial celebration will be Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Road, Lansing, NY. Pastor Ted Martin of Calvary Chapel, Auburn will officiate. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Private calling hours are scheduled for the family and close friends.
