The strongest woman I have ever known, Darlene J. Flinn, age 65, of Lansing, NY, passed away on December 2, 2022, at Cayuga Medical Center, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Darlene is the daughter of the late Frances and Stephen Uhrovcik, of Lansing. She is also predeceased by her brother, David Brotherton, and sister, Dawn Reynolds.
Darlene loved being a grandmother, a mom, a wife, and a best friend. She is survived by her best friend and devoted husband of 11 years, Glenn D. Flinn. Between them they have five children, Michelle Moody-Reynolds (Jason Reynolds), Krystal (Kevin) Westfall, Kendra Moody, Tyler (Kristy) Moody, and Corey (Michelle) Flinn. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Carter, Camden, Logan, Troy, Quintin, and Kinsley. Many times she said her proudest accomplishment was being a mom. She thought she raised the best kids and we think we had the best mom.
Darlene is also survived by four siblings, Paul Brotherton, Gail Knapp, Pam Smith, and Stephen Uhrovcik, as well as her cousin Jeff Philip, and many nieces and nephews. Darlene and her siblings all shared in the gift of gab, a sense of humor, and a desire to have fun.
Anyone who knew her would agree she had a passion for online shopping, perfecting her gardens, being in the sun, and relaxing at the lake with her husband. More than anything, she loved parties, weddings, and holidays. This meant she had shopping and planning to do. This also meant her family was going to be together and she loved nothing more. To us, this woman was our rock, our matriarch, our everything. We who survive her will carry on her strong spirit and know that although this is such a painful loss for us, she is in a better place.
In keeping with Darlene’s wishes, there will be no public memorial service. In the summer there will be a private gathering when her loved ones will be together to honor her.
