Carol Wheeler Brenner, 83, recently of Ithaca, NY, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at Bridges Cornell Heights of Ithaca. Born on December 8, 1930, she grew up in Syracuse, NY. She attended Northfield Mount Herman School, then Michigan State University, where she studied Home Economics. She taught in Battle Creek, MI, for two years before moving to Buffalo, NY, where she met and married Robert Brenner. They moved to Auburn, NY, and returned each summer to Skaneateles Lake, where she had also spent her summers as a child. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, bowling, gardening and picking berries. She was a long time member of The Travelersâ Club and served on the board of Unity House in Auburn, NY. After Auburn, Carol and Robert lived for periods of time in Camillus, NY, Chapel Hill, NC, and finally Lansing, NY.
Carol is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dr. Robert A. Brenner; her son John (Anita) Brenner of Lansing, NY; her daughter Catherine (Johnnes) Tulungen of Culver, IN; her four grandchildren, Elsa, Teddy, Ian and Paul; her brother Benson Wheeler of Dallas, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Robert Foote, will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 149 Honness Ln., Ithaca, NY, on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 11:30 AM.
