Betty Jane Grant, 82, of Lansing, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 18, 2018, with her daughters by her side. Born in Hallstead, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Helen Alden Austin. Betty attended Blue Ridge Schools and graduated in 1953. Shortly thereafter, she met and married Al Grant, and they relocated to the Ithaca area, making it their life-long home and raising their family. After being a full time mother to three girls, Betty went to work as a real estate office manager at several local agencies.
Betty loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed having all of her grandchildren close by who affectionately called her Nina, as named by Casey, her first grandchild. During the winter months, she would always have a jigsaw puzzle going and enjoyed attending Cornell womenâs hockey games, and in the summer, she enjoyed mowing the yard on her tractor and watching her grandchildren swimming. She always enjoyed a good book, the theatre, movies, and outdoor summer concerts, and bonding with her grandchildren and âgrand âdogâ hters.â
She enjoyed the company of her sisters, Barb and Toni. They would always visit their family cottage in Lakeside, PA where they would spend hours reminiscing their childhood while fishing at Page Lake.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Doug) Hagin, Sheila (K9 grand âdogâ hter, Brooklyn) Grant, and Marilyn (Cameron) Willkens; grandchildren, Casey Hagin, Kelsey Hagin, Megan Willkens, and Monica Willkens; sisters, Barbara (Kirk) Hinkley of Hallstead, PA, and Helen âToniâ Price of Chicago, IL; brother-in-law, Dale (Liz) Grant of Harford, PA; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Jag. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Martin Grant, on October 16, 2003.
Her family will miss her infectious smile and her spirited sense of humor.
