Anastasios âTasosâ Aslanis, age 92, of Lansing, passed away peacefully at the Hospicare Residence in Ithaca on Sunday, June 11, 2017.Â
Born January 5, 1925, in Parakoila, Lesvos, Greece, Tasos was a son of the late Ioannis and Aglaia Stamatopoulou Aslanis.  Tasos came to the U.S. after World War II and earned his degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University in Lansing, MI.  He earned commendations and had done innovative work at Anaconda, GE and multiple engineering firms. He was also the author of several published works and numerous essays and poems, including his best known work âThe Man of Confidenceâ an account of his experience as a POW in German camps during WW II.
In 2004, Tasos moved to Lansing, NY, he studied and practiced Tai Chi at the Taoist Tai Chi Society of NY and participated regularly in Landmark Worldwide seminars.
In addition to his parents, Tasos was preceded in death by his brothers, Constandinos and Marinos Aslanis; son-in-law, Andonis Tiglis; and former wife and mother of their children, Naomi Eades.
He is survived by his children, Joanne Tigli of Voroi, Crete, Greece, James R. Aslanis of Neptune Beach, FL and Ruth N. Aslanis (William H. Clune) of Newfield, NY; granddaughter Yeoryia-Anastasia Tigli Krasagaki (Yeoryos Krasagakis ); a 6 month old great grandson; a brother, Petros Aslanis of Heraklion, Crete, Greece; and a large extended family and friends. Â
Tasos was a man who was well loved and respected by many.
A memorial celebration of his life will be held at Foundation of Light, 391 Turkey Hill Rd. Ithaca, NY 14850 on Wednesday June 21, 2017, from 6:00 to 9 :00 p.m. Tasos was interred privately at Pine Grove Cemetery in Lansing.
