Aileen B. Ellis

February 5, 1931 — March 21, 2025

Ithaca, NY

Aileen B. Ellis, 94, a lifelong resident of Ithaca, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Cayuga Medical Center with family by her side. Born on February 5, 1931, she was the daughter of the late George Lawrence and Helen (Hornbrook) Brown. On January 7, 1951, Aileen married the love of her life, Melvin F. Ellis, and their marriage continued for 67 years until his passing on July 29, 2018.

When she was 44, Aileen enrolled in nursing school at TC3 and went on to practice as a LPN at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, retiring after nearly 20 years of service. Her family was very proud of that accomplishment. Aileen served as a poll site worker for the Tompkins County Board of Elections for 43 years. She was also involved in six reunion committees for Ithaca High School’s Class of 1949. For 35 years, Mel and Aileen were lucky enough to call Boca Raton, FL, home for a few months each winter before returning home where family was always nearby. With the help of family, especially in later years, Aileen was able to remain in her original home for 72 years. She will be deeply missed by many.

Aileen is survived by her children, Melvin Ellis, Jr. (Pam), Michael Ellis and Melanie (David) Rogers; grandchildren, Brandon, Ashley, Brittni, Justin, Jeffrey and Thomas; three great-grandchildren; goddaughter, Sandra Gewinner of Baldwinsville; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Bordoni; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Aileen was preceded in death by her grandson, Derrick Rogers.

In keeping with Aileen’s wishes, there will be no public services. Private burial in the family plot at Hayts Cemetery, Ithaca, will take place at the convenience of the family.
