Raymond “Cotton” Brashear, of Groton, NY, passed away peacefully at home on April 4, 2016.  Born November 11, 1934 in Ithaca, NY, Raymond was the son of the late Clarence Sr. and Mildred Nadge Brashear.  Raymond was predeceased by his loving wife of 32 years, Angela Neferis Brashear and his brother Clarence “Bud” Brashear.  Raymond is survived by his daughters Sophia (Nicholas) Darling, Jacquelyn Brashear, and his beloved grandsons Lucas and Lane Darling, all of Groton.  Also surviving Raymond is his loving companion Patricia Storrs, of Homer, with whom he shared many special memories.

Raymond began his schooling at the Immaculate Conception School, graduated from Ithaca High School and secured a degree from Binghamton University.  Raymond began his career as a licensed land surveyor with T.G. Miller, P.C. and was proud to have served in the United States Army from 1954 – 1956, during the Korean Conflict. He went on to own and operate the Brothers II cocktail lounge in Ithaca, NY and finished his career as a self-employed licensed land surveyor. 

Raymond was a doting father, grandfather and companion who loved his family above all else. He embodied loyalty, love, and determination. He spent considerable time teaching his grandsons the importance of these values. He will be loved and missed by those he has left behind.

A Memorial Mass service will be held at 10 am at the Immaculate Conception Church in Ithaca on Saturday, April 9th at 10am. Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery, with full military honors. Arrangements are by the Lansing Funeral Home.
